Why EVIL exists and what is our response - An exploration of THEODICY

The “problem of evil” (or theodicy) has confronted Judeo-Christians for thousands of years.  How are we to reconcile our belief in a good, loving, and powerful God alongside the reality of human suffering and tragedy?  We will explore the important and timeless challenge of theodicy with the help of four engaging speakers and several classic texts. Please join as often as you are able for five weeks of learning and conversation.

  • Tuesday, March 7:  Introduction, The Rev. Frank Wade
  • Tuesday, March 14: Cancelled due to weather
  • Tuesday, March 21: The Book of Job, Dr. Barry Seltser
  • Tuesday, March 28: The Sunflower, Rabbi Gerry Serotta
  • Tuesday, April 4: Conclusion, The Rev. Frank Wade

House Groups
During Lent, and for two months of Easter, you are invited to join one of a number of small groups that will lmeet in parishioners' homes for a simple meal, prayer, and conversation. House Groups will be created based on interest and geographical location of participants, and will be hosted and facilitated by parishioners interested in those roles. House groups are a wonderful way to deepen your faith and relationships with members of your faith community in your neighborhood. Questions? Please contact the Rev. Kristen Hawley.

On-going Education Opportunities

At Christ Church, Adult Education and Formation comes in many forms and primarily engages our Christian formation and spiritual growth through study, reflection, and discussion. With other believers and seekers, we use the gifts of faith and reason in seeking a deeper knowledge of God in our lives, as encountered in the Risen Christ.

The Sunday Adult Forum Program is the cornerstone of our education programs for adults offered on Sunday mornings from 10:05 to 11:00 a.m. This series is complimented by many additional opportunities for exploration and learning including:

Information about Adult Education and Formation offerings is offered in Sunday service leaflets, the weekly email This Week at Christ Church, and on this website. If you have any questions about the various offerings, please email the Rev. Elizabeth Keeler or call 202-333-6677 ext. 233 or speak with her at church.
