SPECIAL NOTICES
Easter Flowers: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn Christ Church this Easter, contact Parish Coordinator Tonika Hilliard, or visit the parish’s giving portal and select Flower Fund from the drop-down menu. Contributions may be made in memory of or in thanksgiving for loved ones. In order for your memorial/thanksgiving to be included in service leaflets on Easter Eve and Day, it must reach the Parish Office by Thursday, March 21, at 12:00 noon.
Lenten Series: This year’s Lenten series, Art Avenues to God, will continue on Tuesdays, March 5, 12, and 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in Keith Hall. Following a simple supper, one of five distinguished guest speakers will lead participants in an exploration of a particular art form, and how that medium reveals and reflects the nature of God. Professional nursery care for children four months of age and older, as well as developmentally appropriate, Lenten-themed art activities, will be available in the Chapel of Saint Jude. Questions? Contact the Parish Office. For more information, click here.
Weekday Services: Why not make weekday worship part of your Lenten practice? Public recitation of Morning Prayer takes place Monday through Friday, at 7:30 a.m., in the Church. On Wednesdays, Morning Prayer is followed by a simple celebration of the Holy Eucharist. All are welcome.
Compline: This Lent, we invite all parish households to consider praying the brief office of Compline each night. To purchase your own copy of The Book of Common Prayer, click here. Compline may be found on page 127. To download Forward Movement’s Day By Day app to your mobile device, click here.
Reconciliation of a Penitent: The sacrament of Reconciliation, or Confession, is especially appropriate during the season of Lent. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact a member of the clergy.
Georgetown Ministry Center (GMC) Extends: Now in its fourth year, GMC Extends serves warm meals to neighbors who are experiencing homelessness on weekdays from November through March. Volunteers are needed to assist this Thursday, February 29 and Friday, March 1. Sign up here for Thursday or Friday. For more information, contact Youth and Family Minister Chrissy Casey.
GENERAL NOTICES
Faith 2.0: Come, enjoy gourmet hot chocolate while discussing the appointed lectionary readings with fellow young professionals. This parishioner-led group meets at L.A. Burdick Chocolate Shop and Cafe: 1319 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, on Sundays, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. For more information, contact parishioners Adriane Connerton or Whitney Enright.
Spiritual Life Ministry: This semester, Christ Church’s Spiritual Life Ministry is once again offering parishioners the opportunity to cultivate their capacity for prayer through the ancient discipline of Lectio Divina — meditation on scripture in which practitioners allow their hearts to be transformed by and through the living Word of God. Sessions are held on the first and third Sundays of each month, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. (just before Choral Evensong), on the second floor of the Church building. All are welcome. For more information, contact parishioner Kelly Storrs.
Choral Evensong: The next service of Choral Evensong will take place on Sunday, March 3, at 5:00 p.m., in the Church. The liturgy will include plainsong, as well as works by Thomas Morley and William Mundy. Evensong will continue on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of the month through May. Christ Church is one of a handful of parishes in the U.S. to offer this beautiful, quintessentially Anglican liturgy with such frequency. Please plan to join us… and bring a friend.
Women’s Bible Study: This semester, all women of the parish and their guests are invited to participate in a Bible study series entitled Holy Women from of Old. From Rahab the faithful traitor to Abishag the wise poet, attendees are surveying God’s involvement in Old Testament history through the lives of women. Sessions will take place on Mondays, March 4 and 18; April 8 and 22; and May 6 and 20, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., in Keith Hall. An online option is available for those who are unable to attend in person. For more information, contact Lay Assistant Minister Tiffany Clark.
Feeding Ministry and Grate Patrol: Christ Church’s Feeding Ministry will next provide a meal to those in need on Sunday, March 10. Parishioners of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Volunteers prepare food from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Grate Patrol volunteers then partner with the Salvation Army to deliver and serve the food from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. To volunteer, click here.
