Parish Bicentennial 2017

Christ Church, Georgetown will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2017, having been founded in November 1817. The Bicentennial Committee is planning a multifaceted celebration to begin in November 2017, with a special liturgy and reception. In Spring 2018, we will mark the groundbreaking of the first church building, and in January 2019 conclude wth a service that closely aligns with the first worship service held on Christmas Day 1818.  In addition, there will be a published history, a commissioned anthem, and other programs throughout the year.

To make the most of this opportunity for our community to come together, and reach out to the wider community of Georgetown and Washington, DC, parishioners have offered ideas to help engage all members and newcomers. Based on discusisons, the parish profile (developed by the Search Committee), and a 1986 brief history of the church, the goals for these celebrations are: to express gratitude, to build community, and to inspire growth. All are invited to participate in the planning. Sub-committees include: Education, Events, Marketing & Communications, Multimedia & Publications, and Music & Worship. Below is a presentation of the Committee's vision, a printable list of committees and contacts, and a printable volunteer form (these are also available at the church.
