GMC Winter Shelter Returns to Christ Church:
Christ Church, in partnership with Georgetown Ministry Center, will again open its doors to our homeless neighbors beginning Sunday, March 12, though Sunday, March 26. It takes many hands to provide meals, companionship, and overnight hospitality to approximately 10 to 12 homeless men and women. For more information or to volunteer, please call email Catherine Burns or call her at 202-471-4380.
2017 Gift/Grant Requests Invited by CCG Mission Committee
The Mission Committee invites proposals from Christ Church, Georgetown (CCG) Mission Groups and individual parishioners for monetary gifts to CCG Mission Partners in 2017. Mission Partners are non-profit organizations that CCG parishioners are actively and collectively supporting through voluntary donations of time, money, goods, and/or services.
In order for Mission Partners to receive funding from the Mission Committee this year, a CCG Mission Group or individual parishioner must submit a Gift Request Form on behalf of the Partner no later than Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Request forms are available at the link above in a PDF for printing, in the Parish Office, and on tables at the back of the church. Completed Gift Request Forms must either be returned to the Parish Office or emailed to the Committee. In early March, the Committee will decide on its 2017 giving and approved requests will be paid out on a staggered basis through the remainder of the year. Please note: Between now and February 21 is the only time this year that the Committee plans to accept Gift Requests.
Gift Requests should clearly and concisely make a compelling case for CCG monetary support in 2017, indicating what specific impact the requested gift will have on the Partner. It is not necessary for a Mission Partner to have received a past gift from the Committee in order to be considered for a 2017 gift. However, priority will be given to requests on behalf of organizations that have strong, current, and volunteer ties to groups of CCG parishioners and that have monetary needs of a magnitude such that a CCG gift could make a significant difference. Applicants whose funding requests are granted will be asked to report to the Committee on the outcomes of the gift's use.
Mission at Christ Church
God calls us to seek and serve Christ in all people. When we feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick, and visit those in prison, we are caring for Jesus. Christ Church is involved in a wide range of mission activities. On each of the pages under this section of the website, you will find descriptions of Christ Church's mission partners, gift amounts, who to contact, and the volunteer opportunities available. All parishioners are invited to explore the opportunities to be of service.
- Homelessness and Housing
- Children and Youth
- Middle East
- Thrift Shop
- St. Francis Guild
Please contact Mission Committee chair Cherie Jones if you have questions or would like more information or the contact named under the specific organization. A list of our Mission Partners and contacts is also available at the church.
