The Reverend Timothy A. R. Cole, Rector

The Reverend Timothy Cole was ordained in the Scottish Episcopal Church, from which the Episcopal Church in the United States has grown. The son of a priest, Father Tim earned degrees from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Cardiff Universities. He began his professional path with a decade of parish ministry, serving as curate at Holy Trinity Church in Dunfermline before becoming vice provost of Saint Andrew's Cathedral in Inverness. He was then called to be Rector of Saint Michael and All Saints in Edinburgh. In 1995, Father Tim joined the Royal Army Chaplains Department, where he served for 20 years in positions of increasing seniority, with a variety of garrison churches (the military base equivalent of parish churches) and with units deployed to Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Sierra Leone, Iraq (where he was the British Senior Force Chaplain), and Afghanistan (where he was the Theatre and Joint Force Senior Chaplain). Most recently, Father Tim served as Assistant Chaplain General for the 3rd United Kingdom Division, leading 33 chaplains in five brigade teams. He was made an Honorary Chaplain to the Queen in 2014. Upon acceptance of the Vestry's call to serve as Rector of Christ Church, Georgetown, Father Tim resigned from the army, leaving as Assistant Chaplain General to the Army Recruiting and Training Division.

Father Tim has been Rector of Christ Church since September 2016. He brings with him the depth of his experience in service with and to young people and families, a dedication to pastoral care and community building through outreach and prayer, a joy in traditional liturgy and music, and a commitment to scripture. He is married to Lorraine and they have two children. Father Tim can be reached at rector@christchurchgeorgetown.org or 202-333-6677.
