The Baptismal Covenant calls us to seek and serve Christ in all persons, to strive for justice and peace among all people, and to respect the dignity of every human being (The Book of Common Prayer, p. 305). When we feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick, and visit those in prison, we are not only living out this Covenant, we are walking in the way of Jesus. To that end, Christ Church, Georgetown, provides many and varied opportunities for individuals of all ages to answer God's call through mission and outreach endeavors in Georgetown, the Washington, DC region, the nation, and the world. We invite you to explore these opportunities and to join us as we seek to serve in Christ’s name.
Christ Church commits an annual tithe (the Biblical giving standard of 10% of income) to outreach and ministry beyond its own walls, funds which are allocated by the Mission Committee. Members of the parish are encouraged to apply for grants on behalf of non-profit organizations with which they are involved, particularly those organizations that are fulfilling the mission of Christ Church as defined by the Marks of Mission:
1. To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
2. To teach, baptize and nurture new believers
3. To respond to human need by loving service
4. To transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation
5. To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth
As of October, the 2024 Mission Funding Application is closed. Stay tuned for another opportunity to apply in the fall of 2025.
