In a world marked by increasing isolation and polarization, the church stands uniquely poised as an integration point for those seeking something better. Our shared belonging to the Lord Jesus offers a starting point for meaningful connection with others who also seek to live as people of faith, hope, and love. With an aim to foster community and personal growth, several Parish Groups have been formed, each with a distinctive flavor designed to meet the needs of parishioners’ varying seasons of life.
Bite-sized Bible Study
Would you like to study scripture more deeply, but have difficulty finding the time? Then grab a cup of coffee and join fellow parents of nursery and Sunday School-aged children for a team-led, 30-minute exploration of passages from the Gospel according to Saint John. No preparation, keen discussion, and relevant application. The group will gather on Sundays (beginning September 29), from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m., on the second floor of the Church building. Nursery care for infants and toddlers, as well as supervised, age-appropriate activities for older children, will be provided in the Chapel of Saint Jude. For more information, contact parishioners
Julia Ainsley, Megan Murton or
Matthew Fredericks.
Faith 2.0
Join this vibrant community of young professionals as they seek to deepen faith and fellowship by walking together through the current chapter of their spiritual journeys. The group gathers on Sundays, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at L. A. Burdick Chocolate Shop and Cafe (1319 Wisconsin Avenue, NW) to discuss the appointed lectionary readings and how those passages resonate with daily life – all the while enjoying coffee and world-class chocolate. For more information, contact parishioners
Adriane Connerton,
Whitney Enright, or Anna Troutman.
Grief Share
Are you mourning the loss of someone or something you love? Then join fellow parishioners of all ages and stages of life as they walk together through the process of navigating grief and move towards hope. Led by The Reverend Deacon Tiffany Clark, the Grief Share group will meet on alternating Monday evenings, beginning September 9, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., in Keith Hall. For more information, contact The Reverend Deacon Tiffany Clark.
Keeping Faith
Composed of parishioners further on in life, this group gathers for a pot-luck supper, followed by a brief presentation and facilitated discussion related to the cultivation of one’s life with God. The group is currently working its way through Trevor Hudson’s
Discovering your Spiritual Identity: Practices for God’s Beloved. For more information, contact parishioners John Gilstad or
Phil Morrison.
Light on the Hill:
Seeking spiritual refreshment and connection with like-minded believers? This group of young couples and single people meets monthly for dinner, Bible study, and occasional outings. This year, the group will read the
Old Testament Book of Daniel as a case study in navigating faithfulness to God amidst a career in politics. For more information, contact parishioners Kaleigh Ballinger or Kelsey Carlson.
Prime Timers
Originally conceived as a small group for individuals age 50 and over, Prime Timers is now open to all members of the parish community. The group will gather for dinner and discussion on the second Thursday of each month, at 6:30 p.m., in Keith Hall. The Fall series will commence on September 12. It will feature a conversation with the Reverend Dr. Karin Ekholm, Christ Church’s new Assistant to the Rector. Subsequent gatherings will explore The Hymnal 1982 and The Book of Common Prayer (1979). A Christmas party is planned for December. For more information, contact parishioners Fred Baldwin, Will Andersen, or Charisse Hiigel.
Spiritual Life Ministry
“Lord, teach us to pray”: Do you yearn for deeper connection with God? Do you seek to listen to and communicate with God through prayer? Christ Church’s Spiritual Life Ministry offers space for participants to learn about and practice various forms of contemplative prayer, including the Daily Office. Meetings will be held on the first and third Sundays of the month (beginning October 6), at 3:30 p.m. (just before Choral Evensong), on the second floor of the Church building. No advance preparation is necessary. For more information, contact parishioner Molly Peacock.
The Gathering
Full of warmth, wisdom, and transparency, this group of (mostly) women meets monthly at a parishioner’s home in Wesley Heights. Following an hour of fellowship over hors d’oeuvres provided by group members and beverages provided by the host, the group then engages in facilitated conversation about life, spirituality, and evolving into the image of God. For more information, contact parishioners
Janis Buchanan or
Evie Rooney.
Thursday Morning Bible Study
Join fellow parishioners for an eight-part, team-led exploration of the Gospel according to Saint John. Utilizing N. T. Wright’s commentary John for Everyone (2023), the group will meet on Thursdays, September 12 and 26, October 3, 17, and 31, November 14, and December 5 and 19, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., in Keith Hall. Advance preparation for each session is encouraged, but not mandatory. For more information, contact parishioners Ernest Clark or David Straut.
Women’s Bible Study
All women of the parish and their guests are invited to participate in a Bible study on the Book of Exodus. This captivating and poetic book tells the story of God liberating his people from slavery in Egypt and his gift of the law at Mount Sinai. These events were formative in shaping what it meant to be people of God. This narrative continues to be referenced, variously interpreted, and reimagined throughout the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, and to the present day.
There will be four meetings during Epiphanytide and four after Easter. We will meet in Keith Hall on alternate Tuesdays from 6-7:30pm (January 14 and 28; February 11 and 25; April 29; May 6 and 20; and June 3), and those unable to attend in person are welcome to join virtually. Please reach out Mother Karin Ekholm with any questions.
Young Professionals
The Young Professionals of Christ Church (parishioners in their 20s, 30s, and 40s) seek to deepen faith and build community through fellowship, study, and outreach. Members gather regularly for bible study, service projects, and happy hours. Special events include a progressive dinner and a ski trip. For more information, contact Father Nate Huddleston, Associate Rector.
Seasoned Lunch Club
Christ Church has happily launched a new ministry: Seasoned Lunch Club, for those 65+. This ministry offers “come as you are” luncheons intended to provide senior (seasoned) parishioners and members of the wider community with the opportunity for fellowship, food, and fun. Our next luncheon will be held on Thursday, January 30 at Christ Church. If you enjoy spending time with senior (seasoned) citizens,
please consider volunteering. If you have a loved who might enjoy these luncheons, please
click here to register them. For learn more, please contact
Chrissy Casey.
If you would like to join one of these groups or learn more about them, contact The Reverend Deacon Tiffany Clark.
